The two-time Oscar winner (“American Beauty”, “The Usual Suspects”) smiled as he arrived at Southwark Crown Court. In the unadorned Courtroom 1 he sat down in the glass case for the accused before the judge opened the hearing. Wearing a dark suit and pink tie, among other things, Spacey looked confident.
From harassment to coercion
The sex offenses he is charged with range from molestation to coercion and are believed to have occurred in London and Gloucestershire between 2001 and 2013. Spacey was artistic director at the renowned London theater Old Vic from 2004 to 2015 and lived in the British capital for a time.
Spacey’s previously successful career faltered in 2017 when several allegations of alleged sexual misconduct were leveled once morest him in the course of the #MeToo debate. He lost his role in the hit Netflix series House of Cards and hasn’t been able to get any Hollywood engagements since. None of the allegations have been proven in court. In several interviews with the “Zeit” magazine, he had recently shown himself confident that he might refute the allegations and get back to his career.
