Ketapang Port Tightens Security Ahead of Nataru Holiday Rush
The arrival of the holiday season brings with it a surge in travel, putting significant strain on transportation hubs like Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi. Recognizing this, authorities are implementing a series of measures to ensure smoother sailing for holidaymakers during the upcoming Nataru period.
Key Focus on Ketapang Port
Irjen Aan Suhanan, Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri), recently emphasized the critical importance of Ketapang Port’s management during Nataru. He highlighted the port as a primary focus for operational planning and traffic control, aiming to prevent the bottlenecks that have plagued the area in previous years.
“Ketapang is one of our top priorities during Nataru. We are committed to ensuring transportation runs smoothly,” Suhanan stated.
Learning from the Past: Mitigating Weather Risks
Two years ago, severe weather conditions caused significant disruptions at Ketapang Port, leading to extended travel delays. In response, Korlantas Polri has invested in improving port infrastructure and facilities. Dredging operations have stabilized water depth and height at the wharves, enhancing the port’s resilience against adverse weather events.
Proactive Measures: Buffer Zones and Traffic Control
While infrastructure upgrades provide a robust foundation, authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations. Three buffer zones have been established at Terminal Sritanjung, Grand Watu Dodol, and Bulusan to manage vehicular traffic efficiently and minimize queuing. Additionally, a one-way traffic system will be implemented in front of Ketapang Port to optimize traffic flow.
“We have devised comprehensive strategies to address potential challenges such as high traffic volume, ship delays, and extreme weather,” Suhanan reassured travelers.
How does Ketapang Port plan to manage the expected increase in passenger traffic?
## Ketapang Port Prepares for Holiday Rush
**Anchor:** Welcome back to the show. The Nataru holiday season is upon us and that means millions of Indonesians will be traveling to celebrate with loved ones. This often leads to overcrowded transportation hubs, and Ketapang Port is no exception. Joining us today to discuss the increased security measures being implemented at the port is former Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Imran. Welcome to the show, Imran.
**Imran:** Thank you for having me.
**Anchor:** So Imran, as we approach the Nataru holiday, Ketapang Port is expecting a significant increase in passenger traffic. Can you tell us about the security strategies being put in place to ensure the safety of travelers?
**Imran:** Absolutely. We’ve learned a lot from recent events, including the 10th World Water Forum held in Bali. We’ve applied the successful security strategies used at Ketapang Port during that event to prepare for the holiday rush. This includes deploying additional officers, both at the port itself and in surrounding villages, to ensure smooth operations and maintain safety. **Anchor:** That’s reassuring to hear. What specific challenges do you foresee during the holiday period, and how are you addressing them?
**Imran:** The primary challenge is the sheer volume of people. Managing crowds and ensuring efficient passenger flow is crucial. We’re working with port officials to streamline check-in processes, provide clear signage, and ensure adequate staffing at all checkpoints.
**Anchor:** Are there any specific security threats that you’re particularly concerned about?
**Imran:** While we always remain vigilant against potential threats, our main focus during this busy period is on crowd management and ensuring the safety and well-being of all travelers.
**Anchor:** Thank you for sharing your insights, Imran. Hopefully, these measures will ensure a safe and smooth holiday season for everyone traveling through Ketapang Port.
**Imran:** Thank you for having me.
