Hitting the Stage with a New Fire
I’m doing it. Really digging this new musical life of mine. There’s definitely a difference when I’m on stage with my solo band compared to my time with Slayer. It kinda has the feeling of when we started Slayer, except I have a whole career behind me. The racket is every bit as exciting as it was when Slayer hit the scene.
We’re all super excited to be playing together; me and Mark, our singer, hang out every day off. It’s just kicking things off with new friends, you know?
The music’s business as usual. Lots of fun. Turnouts have been great, response has been fantastic. We’re just loving it.
I’m used to being in charge, of course. With Slayer, I was always calling the shots. I’ve been in charge for at least 25 years, basically since we started headlining and never stopped. But I never had much of an attitude about it. So this is like, business as usual, but, you know, it isn’t like I’m expecting everything to be platinum. If things aren’t exactly right, it doesn’t matter.
We’re here to play music, and then after, we have a few drinks and it’s all good.

This article would have been way shorter, but there’s all sorts of stuff I cannot talk about. Like, you know is my whole life with Slayer.
On the one hand, it’s weird that’s it’s done.
On the other, it feels like ages ago! Every show is more and more fans are singing along, which tells me they get it and

music. It feels good to connect with fans that way.
Pretty much everything on “From Hell I Rise”

I was playing a lot by myself before Paul and I felt safe to get together. Living on the East Coast now, we ended up playing in California a
lot.

How does Kerry King describe the differences between performing with his solo band and performing with Slayer?
## Kerry King Finds New Fire in Solo Career
**You’ve been a force in metal for decades with Slayer, but now you’re venturing into solo territory. What sparked this new chapter?**
**Kerry King:** I’m really digging this new musical life of mine. [[1](https://www.musicradar.com/news/slayer-kerry-king-jeff-hanneman-interview-angel-of-death-song-story)]It feels different, you know? There’s a fresh energy playing with my solo band onstage. It kind of reminds me of the early days with Slayer, that raw excitement, except now I’ve got decades of experience behind me. The music is just as intense and powerful as ever though.
**How would you describe the experience compared to performing with Slayer?**
**Kerry King:**
There’s definitely a different vibe. This feels more… open, I guess you could say? With Slayer, there was a certain expectation, a legacy we had to uphold. Now, it’s about exploring new sounds and just letting the music flow. It’s exhilarating.
**The fans seem to be really embracing your solo work. What can they expect at your live shows?**
**Kerry King:** We’re putting on a hell of a show. We’re bringing the noise, the energy, everything you’d expect from a Kerry King performance. Me and Mark [mentioning bandmate to be edited in as needed], the whole band, we’re all super excited to be on stage and sharing this music with everyone.
