(ETX Daily Up) – Have you ever thought regarding changing the hazel shade of your eyes to a deep green? While some use contact lenses for a temporary makeover, others opt for a permanent transformation via keratopigmentation, an operation that seems to intrigue people on TikTok.

Recently, a French company named New Color Flaak shared on TikTok a video showing a patient going from brown eyes to azure blue eyes thanks to this operation. In just a few days, this post generated 18 million views, sparking mixed reactions among Internet users.

Some people wonder regarding the necessity of this operation, while others worry regarding the long-term effects on sight and eyes. This video is just one example among many others, with the hashtag “keratopigmentation” racking up nearly 80 million views on TikTok.

Keratopigmentation is a surgical practice aimed at artificially changing eye color. Three techniques are used to achieve the desired result. The first involves cutting the cornea with a laser, creating a small tunnel into which the pigment is inserted. The second method involves inserting a silicone implant inside the eye. Finally, the last option is to remove dark pigments from the eyes with a laser.

It is important to note that all of these practices carry risks. Nadinne Bruna, a model, testifies to the dangers of this procedure which she carried out six years ago in Colombia. After transforming the hazel color of her irises into bright gray, the young woman lost part of her vision. She explains to Healthline : “Before the operation, my eyes were perfectly healthy. They were in very good condition. I was so naive.” She lost 80% of her vision in her right eye and 50% in her left eye. Nadine Brunna opted for the silicone implant, an operation which is prohibited in several regions of the world, including the European Union and the United States due to the numerous risks associated with this intervention.

The intervention which is carried out in France (corneal pigmentation), in particular, would involve fewer risks. “Medically, we can inject pigments. We already do it therapeutically, following a car accident, or trauma causing unsightly scars,” explains Professor Antoine Brezin, head of the ophthalmology department at Cochin Hospital in Paris to Doctissimo. “If you inject pigment into a structure that doesn’t have any naturally, the day you need eye exams or cataract surgery, that poses a problem. Not to mention the risks of infections and keratitis to which you expose yourself,” he adds.

If you aspire to have the look of your dreams, it is advisable to think twice before resorting to this operation which, moreover, would cost around 7,000 euros. “We can also ask ourselves the question of why in the 21st century the dream is still to have blue or green eyes. Why is the absolute standard of beauty is to have light eyes”, asks Professor Antoine Brezin .
