Kerala’s Performance at National Junior Athletic Meet in Coimbatore: Results and Medal Tally

Coimbatore: This time Kerala failed to reach the top three positions in the national junior athletic meet which was once the monopoly of Kerala. Kerala finished fifth with 202.50 points in the junior athletic meet at Nehru Stadium, Coimbatore. Haryana was the overall champion by scoring 411.50 points, trailing its opponents by a long distance. Hosts Tamil Nadu (362.50 points) finished second and Uttar Pradesh (238 points) third. Yesterday, the last day of the meet, Kerala won four gold medals. Kerala’s J.Bjoy won gold with a meet record time of 1 minute 49.74 seconds in the under-18 men’s 800m. Nivedya K in U-18 girls’ 800m, Janis Tresa Regi in U-18 girls’ heptathlon and Anamika in U-20 heptathlon also won gold in Kerala’s medal account yesterday. Sarayu Lakshmi in U-14 girls’ high jump, Jyothika in U-18 girls’ 400m hurdles, V. Neha in U-20 girls’ 200m and U-20 4-400m teams won silver. Sneha Mol George won bronze in U-20 girls’ heptathlon and Mohammad Mohsin won bronze in boys’ triple jump.
