Thiruvananthapuram – Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Political Affairs Committee has decided to conduct a Kerala Yatra under the leadership of KPCC President K. Sudhakaran. As an alternative to government-run public hearings in constituencies, the yatra also aims to expose the government’s failings. The journey from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram will take place in January. The schedule of the trip will be decided later. This is the first visit to Kerala by K. Sudhakaran following becoming the KPCC president.
In the meeting, there was an opinion that while the government is active in the constituencies with the people, the Congress should also make an alternative. Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the government’s public meetings are held on a constituency basis to reach out to the people. In response to that, it was suggested in the meeting that the government’s failures and anti-people policies should be exposed to the people. Senior leaders opined that the trip would help in energizing the party at the grassroots level.
The leadership suggested that the sitting MPs should be more active in the constituency. Campaigns should be planned to expose the failures of the government to the people. MPs also attended the meeting. The Political Affairs Committee met following four and a half months.
Congress election strategist Sunil Kanugolu attended today’s meeting. Under the leadership of Kanugolu, a secret survey was conducted in Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala. The report has been forwarded to the High Command. The report favors a majority of sitting MPs contesting.
There is also a proposal to field unexpected candidates. KPCC executive committee meeting will be held tomorrow. Apart from office-bearers and DCC presidents, leaders in-charge of Lok Sabha constituencies will also participate. The UDF coordination meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Preparations for the Lok Sabha elections will be discussed.
