Kochi: The High Court has stayed the Director of Education’s order to release school buses if needed by the organizing committee to transport people to the Nava Kerala yatra. Justice Devan Ramachandran ordered that the order should not be implemented without the permission of the court. The court’s order was on a petition filed by Philip Joseph, a native of Kasaragod Kototi.

The petitioner argued that his daughter, who is a student, and other children use the school bus, and the proposal to release the bus on working days would affect the functioning of the school. According to the Motor Vehicle Rules and Permit, school buses can only be used for educational purposes. Therefore, the order of the Director of Public Education is illegal, the petition said.

The petitioner argued that the department officials had given verbal instructions that the teachers and other school staff should definitely participate in the Navakerala Yatra even on working days, and such instructions would adversely affect the functioning of the school and the students. Accepting the plea of the petitioner, the court stayed the order of the Director of Education. Advocate for the petitioner. N. Anand was present.
