Kochi: The High Court has stayed the arrest of Twenty20 Chief Coordinator Sabu M. Jacob in the case of insulting Kunnathunad MLA PV Sreenij in public. The order of the High Court has stayed the arrest till March 3. The court also directed Sabu to cooperate with the police investigation in this regard.
Sruthi Srinivasan, a CPM activist, filed a complaint with Putankurish DySP demanding that a case be filed under the Scheduled Castes Prevention of Harassment Act in the incident of insulting PV Sreenijin MLA.
The complaint is that Sabu M. Jacob insulted Sreenij in his speech at the Twenty20 conference organized at Kolanchery on 21st of this month. The High Court intervened and gave last minute permission for the conference in Kolanchery. This was following Twenty20 approached the High Court once morest the government’s denial of permission for the conference. Twenty20 alleged that Srinijin was behind the denial of permission.
According to the complaint, Sabu M. Jacob Srinij was insulted by his speech. Srinijin has complained once morest Sabu on the grounds of caste abuse. Sreenij’s demand was that the members of the governing body, who are members of the Twenty20, leave the stage while attending programs in the panchayats and should consider it as caste abuse.
