Kerala Blasters | Gill will remain on guard; Kerala Blasters renew contract with Golden Glow winner

Kochi: Kerala Blasters have renewed their contract with goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Gill. Under the new deal, Gill will remain at the club until 2024. Gill had a great performance last season when he reached the Blasters final. He also won the League’s Golden Glove Award. Gill said he was “proud” to have signed with the club.

Gill, 21, started his professional career in 2014 from the Chandigarh Football Academy. He later joined the AIFF Elite Academy and was soon selected to the Indian Arrows, the developing team of the All India Football Federation, which plays in the I League. His consistent performance for the Indian Arrows in 2018 helped him win his first Hero ISL contract with Bangalore FC the following year. He tied the knot in two games for the club, including an AFC Cup qualifier. This was followed by the player’s transfer to the Blasters.

He arrived at the Blasters in the 2020 season but did not get the chance. Gill made his debut for the Blasters at last year’s Durand Cup. Albino Gomez, the Blasters’ first goalie during last season’s ISL match, has been ruled out of the league with a hamstring injury.

Gill, the Blasters’ goal-scorer in 17 games this season, has 49 saves and seven clean sheets to his name. Gill was also awarded the Golden Glow for his outstanding performance in the 2021-22 Hero Indian Super League. He also won the Emerging Player of the Month award at the ISL in February.

“I am really proud to be signing a contract with this great club,” said Prabhu Sukhan Singh Gill. The previous season was one of these. I hope the next two years with the club will be better and richer! I look forward to the next two years of competitions, achievements, and struggles. I still have a lot to learn and gain, and I look forward to it. ‘ – Gill added.

“I want to congratulate Gill on his performance last season and his extensive contract extension,” said Carolis Skinkis, Blasters’ sporting director. He waited patiently for a long time and when given the opportunity he proved how good a fighter he is and how talented he is. We are happy to be together. ‘ – Skinkis said.

The Blasters had earlier announced extension of contracts with former clubs Bijoy Varghese, Jackson Singh and Marco Leskovic.
