Kenya refuses to listen to Ukrainian representatives in its parliament

In Kenya, they refused to organize a speech by representatives of Ukraine in front of the parliament of their country. This was reported on April 12 by the local Nation newspaper, citing sources familiar with the situation.

“Why did they, for example, need to appeal to the Parliament of Kenya? – the publication quotes the words of a high-ranking official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the state. Was there such a precedent?

The ministry stressed that Kenya had already made “principled decisions” on the situation between Russia and Ukraine, including within the framework of the UN. The authorities of an African country do not want to choose any of the sides of the crisis, because the main task of the country is to “put an end” to the crisis.

According to the newspaper’s sources, Ukrainian Ambassador to Kenya Andriy Pravednik has been trying for several months to meet with Foreign Minister of the African state Rachel Omano. The ambassador needed a speech before the Kenyan parliament in order to enlist the support of this country in the confrontation with Russia. The Ukrainian side has already received a note from Kenya that the request will be considered, but so far “there has been no response to it.” At the same time, the meeting with the Russian ambassador to the country, Dmitry Maksimychev, took place on March 12, although Nairobi condemned Moscow’s actions in relation to Kiev. A newspaper source in the ministry claimed that there was “nothing wrong” with such a meeting.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke online in front of the Greek Parliament, where he invited two militants of Greek origin from the Azov Battalion banned in Russia to communicate. They were originally from Mariupol, where there is a large Greek community. This angered Greek politicians and provoked a reaction in Cyprus. Representatives of the parliament and the president of the island, Nikos Anastasiadis, were outraged by the selfishness and consumerism of Vladimir Zelensky and accused him of double morality.
