Archyde: Thank you for joining us today, Elisa. It’s a pleasure to have you here. Kensington has been a household name in the music industry for over a decade. How does it feel to reflect on the band’s journey so far?
Elisa Visser: Thank you for having me! Reflecting on our journey is always a mix of emotions. It’s surreal to think about how far we’ve come—from playing small gigs in Amsterdam to performing at major festivals and releasing albums that resonate with so many people. It’s been a wild ride, but I’m incredibly grateful for every moment.
Archyde: Your music has evolved substantially over the years. From your early indie-rock sound to the more experimental and electronic influences in your recent work, how do you approach this evolution as a band?
Elisa: Evolution is natural for any artist, I think. we’ve always been driven by curiosity and the desire to push boundaries. When we started, we were heavily influenced by the indie-rock scene, but as we grew, so did our tastes and experiences. We’re not afraid to experiment, whether it’s incorporating electronic elements or exploring new production techniques. It’s about staying true to ourselves while challenging what we think is possible.
Archyde: Your latest album, Horizons, has been praised for its introspective lyrics and atmospheric soundscapes. Can you tell us about the creative process behind it?
Elisa: Horizons was a deeply personal project for all of us. We wanted to create something that felt expansive yet intimate. The writing process was collaborative, as always, but this time we allowed ourselves more time to reflect and refine. We spent months in the studio, experimenting with different sounds and textures.Lyrically, the album explores themes of self-revelation, resilience, and hope—things we were all grappling with during the pandemic. It was a cathartic experience, and I think that emotion comes through in the music.
Archyde: The pandemic undoubtedly had a profound impact on the music industry. How did it affect Kensington, both personally and professionally?
Elisa: It was a challenging time for everyone, and we were no exception. We had to cancel tours and postpone album releases, which was frustrating. But it also gave us time to slow down and reconnect with why we make music in the frist place. Personally, it was a period of introspection for me. I think that’s why Horizons feels so raw and authentic—it’s a reflection of where we were mentally and emotionally during that time.
Archyde: You’ve been open about mental health struggles in the past. How do you balance the demands of being a musician with taking care of yourself?
Elisa: It’s something I’ve had to learn over the years. The music industry can be incredibly demanding, and it’s easy to lose yourself in the chaos. For me, it’s about setting boundaries and prioritizing self-care. Whether it’s taking time off to recharge or seeking therapy, I’ve learned that my well-being is just as important as my career. I’m also lucky to have an incredibly supportive band and team who understand the importance of mental health.
Archyde: Kensington has a dedicated fanbase that has grown with you over the years. What does your relationship with your fans mean to you?
Elisa: Our fans are everything. They’ve been with us through every high and low, and their support means the world to us.We’ve always tried to be transparent and authentic with them, and I think that’s why our connection feels so genuine. Meeting fans after shows or reading their messages online reminds me why we do what we do. It’s not just about the music—it’s about the community we’ve built together.
Archyde: Looking ahead, what’s next for Kensington? Any upcoming projects or tours we should be excited about?
Elisa: We’re always working on something new! Right now, we’re focused on touring and bringing Horizons to life on stage. We’re also experimenting with new ideas in the studio, so who knows what the future holds? One thing’s for sure—we’re not slowing down anytime soon.
Archyde: Thank you, Elisa, for sharing your insights with us.We can’t wait to see what Kensington does next.
Elisa: Thank you! It’s been a pleasure.
