THE MINISTRY of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) has coordinated with the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (UPTD PPA) of Bangkalan Madura Regency, the Office of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection and Population (DP3AK) of East Java Province and the Bangkalan Police regarding handling cases of violence in a relationship that happened to a female student (D) and was allegedly carried out by her boyfriend (F).

Deputy for Protection of Women’s Rights at the Ministry of PPPA, Ratna Susianawati, revealed that the victim’s condition is currently safe with her family and she is still continuing her education. It was said that his party would continue to monitor and ensure the victim’s condition so that they could get access to justice in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

“We will also ensure that the victim can continue his education and study as usual. Psychological assistance is being provided by UPTD PPA Bangkalan in Madura, East Java and victims receive assistance in reporting to the police as well as assistance with post-mortems. “We are also monitoring the legal case,” said Ratna in Jakarta on Monday (30/9).

Ratna said that victims of dating violence often do not dare to report it because they feel confused, afraid and embarrassed. In fact, violence in any form must not be tolerated. “Article 351 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) regulates criminal sanctions for perpetrators of abuse and can be subject to criminal sanctions in accordance with article 351 paragraph 1, namely imprisonment for a maximum of two years and eight months or a maximum fine of four thousand five hundred rupiah and can also be “subject to Article 353 of the Criminal Code if the abuse carried out was planned in advance, and Article 354 of the Criminal Code for serious abuse,” he said.

Ratna expressed her appreciation for the cooperation from several parties for the quick response to this case and also appreciated the community who cares about the victim’s safety. “Currently, the perpetrator has been detained and is currently under investigation. “The community must also be more careful, because perpetrators of violence, especially against women, often come from the victim’s immediate environment and are people the victim knows,” said Ratna.

Ratna invites all women who experience violence, as well as all people who hear, see or know about cases of violence to have the courage to reveal cases of violence that occur and to report cases of violence through the Friends of Women and Children (SAPA) 129 call center and WhatsApp 08-111-129-129.
