The prime minister’s office approached parliamentary authorities to make the belated statements last Tuesday. His advisers were already in touch with them, as several designers had approached Lady Starmer offering free products including clothes, jewelery and cosmetics.

This led to the decision to declare Lord Alli’s previous gifts as well. The list of the prime minister’s new declared interests is expected to be published next month. Lady Starmer, for her part, has refused to accept the designers’ offers.
