Kehagia: We will not let the wiretapping file be closed

“We have said and proclaimed that the wiretapping scandal for the official opposition party, SYRIZA-PS, is not over. It’s a matter of principles of a rule of law, it’s a matter of democracy,” said the party’s representative, Voula Kehagia, speaking to Mega.

He emphasized that “SYRIZA will continue to move institutionally, no matter how many obstacles it encounters on its way, and will make every effort to reveal every aspect of the truth of this unprecedented phone surveillance scandal.” He commented that “we cannot imagine that there was a breakdown of the facts that show that a single monitoring center was operating between the EYP and the managers of the Predator, which, it should be noted, had – according to the reports which have never been denied – some of them , and close relationships with persons from the Maximos Palace” and noted: “It is not possible that at least 28 persons from the list that the prosecutor’s investigation brought out were monitored at the same time or in parallel or in other periods of time by both the EYP and the Predator and this it’s something random.”

Mrs. Kehagia stated that “we are talking about an anti-institutional and anti-democratic deviation in terms of surveillance” and “we will not stand idly by.” He emphasized that “we will not let this file be closed because the Maximos Palace requests it” and that “the government of Mr. Mitsotakis will be held accountable.” He said that auditors are also being audited and that the Judiciary is accountable somewhere. “Justice can be accountable to its conscience, but it can also be accountable to Greek society. It can be accountable to democracy and institutions,” he said. He added that the call to the Institutions and Transparency Committee of the prosecutor of the Supreme Court and the prosecutor who carried out the investigation, “was not to sift through the decision, but to request some information that accompanies the file of this case, to have a discussion and for the parties, who are unable to understand this decision, to understand why the wiretapping scandal was archived. It’s something that has happened before.”

When asked about the exact government measures, V. Kehagia said that “it is not enough”. “He has not taken measures for the ferry tickets, and the measures regarding the accuracy and the increase in electricity prices are both late and do not concern all the citizens. In other words, it is for the month of August, it does not concern small businesses or small and medium-sized businesses, it is for households and that under conditions.” He noted that “first and foremost the measures should have been taken sooner, the subsidy should have been bolder and more drastic, initiatives should have been taken for the Energy Exchange and first and foremost a long time ago, already since May, we have said that the profit margin for energy providers cannot exceed 5%…”.
