Keba, one of the leading European providers of charging solutions (wallboxes) with headquarters in Linz, announces the acquisition of EnerCharge. With this strategic acquisition, the portfolio is expanded to include DC charging solutions, i.e. direct current and fast charging options, for the (semi-) public sector.
The Austrian charging infrastructure manufacturer EnerCharge from Kötschach-Mauthen, founded in 2018, surprisingly filed for bankruptcy at the beginning of July 2024 after strong growth in 2023. The decisive factor for this was that orders at the beginning of the year could not be fixed quickly enough, which meant that the cost structure could not be covered, according to trustee Klaus Haslinglehner.
EnerCharge employs around 60 people at the Kötschach-Mauthen locations in Carinthia and Oberlienz in East Tyrol. The focus is on DC direct current charging stations between 40 and 480 kW output. These are used both in electric cars and in the rapidly growing segment of fast-charging infrastructure for electric trucks. Current sales markets are primarily Europe and the Middle East.
Confidence about the purchase price
By integrating EnerCharge’s products and solutions, Keba becomes a full-range provider in the charging infrastructure market for electric vehicles. As a wallbox specialist, Keba has sold over 500,000 charging stations since it entered the field of electromobility, most of which are used where an electric car is parked for a long time (at home, in underground car parks, at work). In addition, there are now DC fast chargers, which aim to enable the shortest possible charging stop on longer routes, such as on motorways. Keba now has an answer for all charging requirements for electric cars and electric trucks.
Organizationally, EnerCharge GmbH is a newly founded company Keba eMobility DC GmbH a subsidiary of Keba Energy Automation GmbH. This is subject to antitrust and competition law approvals. It was agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
“With this acquisition, we not only complete our Keba eMobility portfolio, but also gain around 60 committed employees for our group of companies, with whom we will jointly develop and produce sustainable technology in Austria and export it all over the world,” says Christoph KnoglerManaging Director of Keba Group AG.
