The Financial Supervisory Service revealed that Daegu Bank illegally opened 1,662 securities accounts using copies of applications that were not directly signed by customers.

There are 114 employees who participated in the scheme to open securities accounts by linking the deposit accounts of 1,552 customers at 56 branches.

It was revealed that the employees used a copy of the application for opening a Securities A account, signed electronically by the customer, as an application for opening a Securities B account without the customer’s consent.

It was also revealed that some employees arbitrarily changed customer contact information, preventing customers from receiving information regarding account opening and related terms and conditions from securities firms.

The Financial Supervisory Service plans to take strict action for the lack of internal controls to prevent such unfair practices and the lack of follow-up inspection, such as not taking appropriate action even following discovering related cases.

The results of this inspection also raised a red flag for Daegu Bank’s conversion to a commercial bank.

This is because the Financial Services Commission announced its intention to review during the government audit.

Meanwhile, Daegu Bank announced that it is proceeding with the explanation process for customer consent regarding the results of the Financial Supervisory Service’s inspection and has also completed supplementation of internal control.
