The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission reported that Nam Young-jin, former chairman of KBS, violated the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, and asked the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office to investigate.

Vice Chairman Jeong Seung-yoon of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission held an emergency press conference at the Seoul Government Complex this morning, and confirmed the violation of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act as a result of checking the use of business promotion funds submitted by KBS.

The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission found that former chairman Nam provided 7.2 million won worth of food to public officials and journalists regarding 35 times in excess of 30,000 won for food. It said that it confirmed 6 million won on 22 occasions that might be considered to have caused property damage.

In addition to this, there were 41 suspicious cases, such as partial payments, worth 6 million won, and additional investigations were needed as there were additional cases of violation of the law.

In response, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission decided that an investigation was necessary and sent the case to the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, and announced that it would hand over all of the data to the Korea Communications Commission, the supervisory body, for areas requiring investigation or administrative disposition.

Previously, on the 13th of last month, the conservative KBS labor union filed a public interest report of corruption to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, asking for an investigation into Nam’s violation of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act.
