Kazan: Explosion at Russian gas pipeline kills three

An explosion occurred on the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhhorod gas pipeline west of the city of Kazan.
Three people are said to have died. This is reported by the Archyde.com news agency with reference to local authorities and the TASS news agency. The pipeline carries gas from Russia to Europe via Ukraine. Three people are said to have died in the explosion.

According to local officials, the flow of gas through the section of the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhhorod pipeline stopped at 1:50 p.m., they said via Telegram. The natural gas pipeline is considered one of Russia’s most important natural gas export pipelines, partly owned and operated by Ukraine.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, the fire has already been extinguished. The break in the line therefore occurred as part of planned maintenance work. These took place near the village of Kalinino, regarding 150 kilometers west of the Russian city of Kazan.
