Kazakhstan will refuse to send troops to Ukraine under the CSTO Treaty

During the briefing, Deputy Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan Sultan Kamaletdinov said whether Kazakh peacekeepers might go to Donbass as part of the CSTO forces, if this organization so decides.

As the deputy head of the department pointed out, the use of the armed forces of the republic outside the country is scheduled and normatively fixed, reports NUR.KZ. According to him, the participation of military personnel in peacekeeping operations is carried out only on the basis of a resolution of the UN Security Council.

Then, on the basis of this resolution, the head of state comes up with a proposal before the parliament. Only following the approval of the members of Parliament, the use of the Armed Forces is possible. However, this issue is now “not even being considered.”

Earlier, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that during the summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) scheduled for May, one of the topics of discussion might be the situation in Ukraine.

In April, the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan reported that they had not yet received requests to send military personnel through the CSTO to the territory of Ukraine or to any other state. Then the department also pointed out that “the introduction of the Collective Peacekeeping Forces outside the territory of the Collective Security Treaty Organization” is possible only with the approval of the UN Security Council and with the consent of both parties.
