(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Shin Yu-ri = Kazakh President Kasim Jomart Tokayev announced on the 7th (local time) that order has been restored in relation to the sixth day of anti-government protests.
According to the AFP news agency, President Tokayev said in a statement on the same day that he had “embarked on a counter-terrorism operation” and that “constitutional order was largely restored in all regions.”
“Law enforcement is working hard,” he said.
This announcement came shortly following the Russian-led National Security Council of the former Soviet Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CST0), dispatched peacekeepers to the protests in Kazakhstan.
Kazakh authorities added that 26 “armed criminals” were killed in connection with the anti-government protests.
Earlier, in Kazakhstan, on the 2nd, massive anti-government protests broke out over fuel price surges, which led to bloodshed across the country, killing dozens and injuring more than 1,000.
