Nursultán, Jan 11 (EFE) .- The Kazakh Parliament today approved the appointment of Aliján Smailov, 49, as the country’s new prime minister, a position to which he was proposed by the president of Kazakhstan, Kasim-Yomart Tokáyev.
Smaílov temporarily assumed the leadership of the Government on the 5th in the middle of the violent riots that shook the country and that led to the dismissal of the full Cabinet led by Askar Mamin.
The president presented the candidacy of Smailov, deputy prime minister of the previous Cabinet, by videoconference from Akorda, the Kazakh presidential palace.
As soon as he received the unanimous endorsement of Parliament, Tokáyev signed the decree appointing Smailov as prime minister.
The new head of the Government has a long history in the public administration, since before serving as deputy prime minister, a position he assumed in 2020, he served as finance minister.
