Champion Katy Marchant Injured Following Dramatic Crash at UCI Track Champions League
London’s Lee Valley VeloPark witnessed a horrifying crash during the sixth round of the UCI Track Champions League on Saturday evening, resulting in serious injuries for Olympic gold medalist Katy Marchant.
The incident occurred during the keirin, when Marchant collided with fellow rider Alessa-Catriona Pröpster. Pröpster moved high up the track, culminating in a high-speed collision with the two cyclists catapulted over the trackside barrier, landing in the audience.
The race was immediately halted as event medics rushed to attend to the injured riders and four spectators who were caught in the aftermath. Marchant was transferred to the hospital for further treatment.

X-rays revealed a fractured radius and ulna in Marchant’s right forearm, as well as two dislocated fingers. “Katy is in good spirits and is receiving excellent care from her medical team. We wish Katy a full and speedy recovery,” said British Cycling in a statement posted on X.

While Marchant’s injuries are serious, there was positive news. “Katy is going to be okay,” assured British Cycling.
