With the development of technology, people’s lives are made more and more comfortable. Does the convenience of the digital world also guarantee the security we expect?

  • General awareness is low. The average user often does not have sufficient knowledge to quickly integrate innovative digital solutions into everyday use. At the same time, it is inevitable that the weakest link of the user base is not taken into account when creating new web environments. For example, the creator of a newly updated internet platform does not think about the fact that the user applying Smart-ID for making confirmations may not know the principle on which PIN1 and PIN2 work or to which operations he gives irrevocable consent with a couple of confirmations.
    At this point, the differences between generations come to the fore. Fraud statistics show that teenagers and the elderly are most at risk. If young people lack sufficient life experience and a sense of danger, the elderly have gone through a crazy change in a very short time. From the time when there was no idea about computers to today, when everything is largely built on digital solutions, the time dimension is short, but the amount of changes is colossal.
  • We do not delve, we act! When pressed for time, we often do several things at once. However, digging below the surface is the perfect trump card for cyber crooks to use to steal money. Clicks on links in SMS package messages or e-mails made at flying speed, and the lack of critical analysis of whether the person speaking on the phone is authentic, will sooner or later do you a disservice. If we took the time to focus, there wouldn’t be half as many phishing incidents.
  • We take no responsibilitybut we expect that someone else will ensure the safety of our money. With the constant digital development, more and more people think that a certain object, application or program will take care of security for itself, and the responsibility lies with the creator of the convenience. However, if a person does everything himself to ensure that the fraudster has as easy access to personal data, passwords and environments as possible, the police or the bank cannot be held responsible later. Small steps become big – educating yourself and asking for help or advice if necessary is free, but relying on others can pay a heavy price.

You always have to choose between convenience and security. While ensuring security can involve a lot of seemingly tedious extra steps and button presses, we’re actually happier living in a world where everything can’t happen in seconds.
