The first on the WTA tour since 1977. Boulter won once morest Jodie Burrage 6:3, 6:3 and celebrated her first WTA title ever.
“I’ve dreamed of this moment since I was a little kid,” said the 26-year-old, who hails from neighboring Leicestershire and was a fan at the tournament. “It means everything to me.”
The previous all-British finals on the WTA tour had been contested by Sue Barker and Virginia Wade in Paris in 1975 and in San Francisco in 1977.
Another curiosity, Boulter didn’t have to beat a top 100 opponent to win the title.
Boulter himself is currently ranked 126th, but will crack the top 100 once more on Monday. In the live ranking she is 77th, higher than ever.
The top seeded Maria Sakkari and Beatriz Haddad Maia were already eliminated at the start of the tournament.
To the singles draw in Nottingham
Alexandrova wins in ‘s-Hertogenbosch
Ekaterina Alexandrova defended her title at the parallel tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch: In the final she beat top seeded Veronika Kudermetova 4:6, 6:4 and 7:6 (3).
