Supermodel Kate Moss has had pink hair before, if only for a week in 1998. A Marc Jacobs campaign brings back the perky locks, with plenty of nostalgia included.
In 1993, fashion designer Marc Jacobs, then chief designer of the American brand Perry Ellis, worked with model Kate Moss for the first time. For his “Grunge Collection”, which is also considered a turning point in contemporary fashion, he sent the then 19-year-old Moss down the catwalk. She was also in the process of revolutionizing the image of beauty in her industry, provoking with her look, which later became known as “heroin chic”.
She stood in front of the camera for Marc Jacobs’ Autumn/Winter 2000 campaign, photographed by Juergen Teller, who at the time was part of a new generation of fashion photographers. More than twenty years later, Moss is once more the face of the spring/summer collection of the label Heaven by Marc Jacobs.
hair like back then
The now 48-year-old model is once once more taking the lead in a new campaign. For the Resort 2022/23 campaign, Moss was given a mop of pink, as it was in the late 1990s for Versace’s spring/summer 1999 show. A photo of Juergen Teller has been doing the rounds there since the advent of social networks. It shows the young model in bed, the pink highlights spread out on the pillow and is called “Young Pink Kate”.
Paired with sky-high Kiki boots, the colored hair lends a ’90s aesthetic, though the bright pink mightn’t be more contemporary (Keyword: Barbiecore!). This was captured by Harley Weir, styled by Danielle Emerson. Two classic bags from the designer will be presented: the “Bucket Pouch” and a “J Marc” shoulder bag. It is touching that the designer and the model are still working together following almost thirty years. it was not until the summer that Moss followed in Jacobs’ footsteps as creative director of Diet Coke.
