Remembrance Day, also known as Armistice Day, commemorates the end of the First World War at 11am. on 11 November 1918, and every year on the second Sunday in November, Britain pays tribute to the fallen. Ceremonies take place at war memorials and churches across the country, with the focus being on the Cenotaph in Whitehall, London, where the royal family and the country’s political leaders gather.
Kate, who is back in public after cancer treatment, took part in this year’s Remembrance Day celebrations for the second day in a row. The 42-year-old princess watched the ceremony from a balcony of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Whitehall, next to SophieDuchess of Edinburgh, marking her resumption of royal duties. She appeared in a black military-style jacket, adorned with epaulettes and the signature three poppies on the lapel, while completing her look with a stylish veiled hat.
The night before, she had already appeared at the Festival of Remembrance, alongside her husband, Prince William. These were her first back-to-back public appearances this year, following her treatment.
