The Princess of Wales made a rare public appearance today during her ongoing cancer treatment to attend the men’s singles final at Wimbledon to attend, together with her daughter, prinses Charlotte.

It is the second public appearance since she first announced her cancer diagnosis in March. The annual championship is a major event for Kate Middletonwho is president of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, and often sits in the front row of the Royal Box during the annual tournament. Today was her only visit to Wimbledon 2024.
At Wimbledon the Princess of Wales often her most playful style statements, opting for bright colors and polka dot prints from her favorite labels. This time, however, she looked to a brand that more regularly dresses her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, to watch Novak Djokovic take on Carlos Alcaraz in a repeat of last year’s final, for which the princess wore a green Roland Mouret. This time, she opted for a purple dress from British label Safiya.

Safiya has long been a royal favorite thanks to the Duchess of Sussex who regularly opted for the sleek, sculptural designs, rendered in bold, confident hues ––qualities that are easily recognizable in the choice of Kate Middleton nowadays.
The Cecilia dress, in a vibrant shade of violet, retails for over £1,300 on the website, though the princess’s neckline has been altered. The skirt and slightly cinched waist with pleat detail are classic Kate, and reminiscent of what we’ve come to know regarding her preferences in recent years.

The choice proved to be a smart one for the tournament, making the princess, who was greeted with loud applause from Centre Court, highly visible in from Royal Box and neatly matched the colors of Wimbledon and her ceremonial brooch.
Purple has also long been a shade with royal connotations and was worn a lot by the royal family. The public was visibly moved when Kate Middleton took her place at Wimbledon:

Of Wimbledon finals have become somewhat of a family affair in recent years, with Kate often bringing the family along. This time it was prinses Charlotte who sat in the Royal Box with her mother for the second year in a row, as did Kate’s younger sister, Pippa Matthews. Could it be that Prince William and Princes George and Louis are on their way to Berlin for the European Championship final? Very likely.
