New noble title for Kate Middleton and William. Despite the far from happy period faced by the royal couple, the two in fact received prestigious honors from King Charles III. The Princess of Wales was officially named Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour, while the Prince became Great Master of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath. The honors would have come as a demonstration of the affection felt by the sovereign in this difficult period for the couple. Kate, the first member of the royal family to receive the Order of the Companions of Honour, received an award usually given to people who have distinguished themselves in their fields, from art to music, from environmental protection to science and established in June 1917 by King George V.

An honor previously given to Sir David Attenborough, the actress Judi Dench, the singer Paul McCartney. But also Prime Minister Winston Churchill, fashion designer Mary Quant and British actor Alec Guinness. A huge certificate of esteem, as also underlined by Antonella Rossi in Vanity Fair, from King Carlo for his daughter-in-law: “He has always had an excellent bond with her. I don’t think it’s presumptuous to say that she’s like the daughter he never had,” royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith recently testified to People.

The double diagnosis of cancer would therefore have brought Charles closer to Kate and her announcement to the world regarding her illness would have filled the sovereign with pride, so much so that he pushed him to grant her the honor. And with his son, King Charles showed equal esteem by awarding him a title of very high sentimental value. Being Grand Master of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath does not mean obtaining a new honour: the title was in fact in the hands of Charles III in his years as Prince of Wales and did not belong to anyone else since his accession to the throne of England.
