Tehran: Oscar winner and prominent Iranian actress Tarane Alidosti (38) was arrested. After the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody on September 16, there are huge protests across Iran. Tarane Alidoshi was arrested for supporting the protesters. Mahsa Amini was arrested by the police for not wearing a proper headscarf and was killed in police custody.

The international news agency AFP reported, quoting the local media Mizan Online News, that prominent figures including Alidosti were interrogated or arrested.

In 2016, Alidosti won an Oscar for her performance in the film ‘The Salesman’. Alidosti’s ‘Layla’s Brothers’ was screened at the Cannes Film Festival this year.

On December 8, Alidoshi posted a post on the social media platform Instagram in support of the protesters. The arrest was made in the name of this note.
Meanwhile, on November 9, the actress shared a picture of herself on Instagram showing her solidarity with the strike.

Ali Dosti was also holding a sign that read ‘Women, Life, Freedom’, one of the main slogans of the anti-government protesters. She stopped acting temporarily to support the families of those who died in the agitation.
