– Katalin Karikó has given us Hungarians exceptional pride – highlighted the words of MTI’s Tamás Sulyok, which the head of state said at the gala dinner in honor of Katalin Karikó at the University of Szeged (SZTE).
– The fantastic success of the Nobel Prize-winning researcher gives encouragement to all those who want to embark on the rugged path of science. With his hard-fought professional career, he radiates an encouraging force to everyone who faces seemingly insurmountable difficulties in his profession and work
said Tamás Sulyok.
With Katalin Karikó, we constantly see that she carries a great sense of responsibility towards her country. This is true patriotism, which is not loud or boastful, but deep, true and heartfelt
– emphasized the president of the republic. He added: Katalin Karikó does not belong, but she returns it. He brings his knowledge home and shares his professional successes with us. He brings home everything he has earned through his own strength, perseverance and effort. He makes the fruits of his labor public property and shares his own glory in his country.
Referring to the fact that the researcher donated the sum of the Nobel Prize to his former university, the head of state said: the citizens of the University of Szeged will never forget his generous donation.
Albert Szentgyörgyi was mentioned as a “new conqueror” from Szeged at the awarding of his Nobel Prize, the President of the Republic reminded. He added that he is particularly proud to welcome another “conqueror” who started from Szeged, who will make the beautiful city famous, its community prouder and its university more famous.
– Szeged and the halls of the university host a host of Hungarian scientists who have achieved similar professional success. More and more “conquerors” who reach the heights of science – Tamás Sulyok said his wish.
Katalin Karikó – who didn’t even want to hide that she is often touched by the love that welcomes her in Szeged – put it this way:
I feel like I am one of you.
According to the researcher, the results he achieved and the awards recognizing his work also belong to those who once taught or taught reading and writing at the university. He also brought his award to Szeged and donated the amount to the university in order to share it with everyone who was a part of it, and also in thoughts with those who are no longer with us.
Katalin Karikó wants to inspire the next generation. “It’s not the prize that’s important, it’s that we set goals for ourselves, and when we reach them, we look for new ones,” said the Nobel Prize-winning researcher.
