Kata and racket of the rooms, uncle Abel Alvarez Vasquez sent to trial –

Christian Campigli

A little girl disappeared into thin air. Swallowed up in the former Astor hotel, occupied for months with the indifference of the left that has always administered Florence. More than a year following that tragedy, the prosecutor’s office of the Tuscan capital has not stood by and watched. And today significant measures have arrived. Four people, including Abel Alvarez Vasquez, the maternal uncle of little Kata, have been sent to trial by the judge of the preliminary hearing of the Florence court for the investigation into the so-called “room racket” in the hotel occupied by South Americans and Romanians. The other three, as reported by the Adnkronos news agency, aged between 38 and 64, are Carlos De La Colina Palomino, known as Carlos, Nicolas Lenes Aucaucasi, known as Nicolas, and Carlos Manuel Salinas Mena, known as Manuel.

Kata, investigations continue: the four privileged investigative leads

According to the prosecution’s theory, the four Peruvians would have called the shots in the former hotel. Owners of a property that was not theirs but occupied illegally, they would have extorted money and committed violence once morest other occupants, to manage the assignment of rooms. This situation, in May 2023, also resulted in an attempted murder of an Ecuadorian occupant, one of the episodes contested by the Prosecutor’s Office. The preliminary hearing judge has ordered the trial to begin on April 8, 2025. Unfortunately, there is still no news on the child. The Prosecutor’s Office continues to work on at least four leads: that of kidnapping, in order to blackmail the family, her transfer to Peru (on which Kata’s mother and father have, up to now, remained silent for fear of reprisals), the pedophile lead and that of the begging racket, run by Roma families in various European capitals.
