In fact, Giorgos Liagas revealed that this piece was a personal choice of Stefanos Kasselakis and asked him why he chose it. “I chose Constantinos Argyrou’s song “My Athens”, because I was sure you would ask regarding my house in Athens. When asked how he felt when Alexis Tsipras made an announcement before the Congress, Stefanos Kasselakis replied that the conference is in the past.
“I can’t comment, I think he should have come to the conference. His attitude didn’t bother me. I didn’t expect it (s.s. regarding the letter). I am not sentimental I have a purpose to win society. I expect everything, someone can hurt me, stab me in the back.”
He revealed, however, that following the Congress he has not spoken to Alexis Tsipras but will call him when he needs him. “What did you say to Gerovasili?” Giorgos Liagas asked him.
And he continued by saying that “I was supported by people who want to be once morest the system. Even within the party, the areas I won were popular neighborhoods and the countryside,” he said and added: “There are many new members in the party. Our party must respond to society. It has no grounding in trade unionism, we don’t have MPs in Attica”.
“Will you catch it on the 17th in the European elections?” Giorgos Liagas asked him. “I believe we will overcome it. There must be an alternative in the country from a party that will be progressive. We have clear positions and I encourage those who want to participate in the elections to come. The goal is for my party to become deeply social. The ideology of SYRIZA is solid. Open markets labor rights, human rights, moderate foreign policy, robust defense.
“I believe that I will become prime minister with SYRIZA-PS”, emphasized Stefanos Kasselakis.
The president of SYRIZA-PS was asked regarding his relationship with Pavlos Polakis saying that: “I have a good relationship with Pavlos Polakis” he replied, while adding: “I have a plan, I will execute it, obviously there will be changes”.
“In Pavlos’ mother, I see my Cretan grandmother who raised me,” continued Stefanos Kasselakis. “We have a different style, but Pavlos is an honest man, he has done a lot of work on transparency and health,” he said. “He made a big mistake,” he noted regarding Pavlos Polakis’ stance on the specific bill. “The prefecture of Chania is in favor of marriage equality,” he clarified.
For the basketball player Nikos Pappa, he said that he will be a candidate in the primaries that will be held in SYRIZA-PS for the persons who will fill the party’s ballot for the European elections.
About the infantry he said: “In 13 days I am leaving as an infantryman or Sparta or Thebes. I will stay 15 days. It doesn’t seem strange to me where I’m going, it’s an honor to serve the country. What one has to think regarding is how many expatriates would return to the country if there was a meritocracy. I wish we might modernize the army. There is no way I might ask for anything. I am not the one who will decide my daily life there. I have an institutional position, everyone knows that, but I will follow what the law says. I’m not asking for any special treatment.”
