Kaspersky launches a security solution dedicated to containerized environments

Kaspersky launches Kaspersky Container Security (KCS), a comprehensive solution for containerized environments. This solution secures containerized applications at all stages, from development to operation. The product is ready to use upon installation, inexpensive and easy to deploy and integrate into the company’s IT infrastructure. Together with Kaspersky Hybrid Cloud Security, it forms a security ecosystem for hybrid and cloud infrastructures.

Containerization is an increasingly popular technique in software development because it helps developers build and deploy high-level applications more quickly. The main advantage of this technology is its autonomy, which is reflected in its name. Like bagged cargo on a container ship, separated from the ship itself but moving within it, the container contains everything needed to develop, deliver and deploy an application ( microservice); namely binary code, associated configured files, libraries and software dependencies. This makes containerized applications easily portable, highly reliable, and capable of being run by decentralized teams.

Containerized environments need protection as the number of cyber incidents increases. To counter this problem, Kaspersky launched Kaspersky Container Security, a specialized solution for containerized environments designed to protect companies that already use containers or plan to implement them. The product ensures security at all stages of containerized application development. In addition to the development process, the solution protects the execution environment, for example by controlling that only trusted containers are executed, and by monitoring the operation of applications and services inside the containers as well as the traffic.

Kaspersky Container Security consists of three main elements: “KCS scanner”, “KCS agent” and “KCS server”:

The KCS scanner checks configuration files for configuration errors, scans images for vulnerabilities, malware, and sensitive data, and verifies their compliance with assurance policies in image registry and CI platforms /CD.

The KCS agent provides protection against various attacks of the application in the container, monitors interactions between the container and the network in clusters and checks the compliance of the entire system with security standards.

The KCS Management Server aggregates data received from the scanner and agent, allows customers to view data and generate reports, and integrates with other security solutions (e.g., SIEMs like KUMA from Kaspersky).

Kaspersky Container Security easily integrates into the organization’s DevSecOps framework, CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure. It can strengthen DevOps protection for both companies that have developed DevSecOps processes and those that are just beginning to implement them. The solution also allows you to set predictable deadlines for putting the application into production by automating security checks and compliance at all stages.
