Kashmiri artists making ‘Shadows’

He said that he was inclined towards such things from childhood. ‘I thought of doing something new and initially started making shadows of animals.’

According to him: ‘When I was making shadows of animals, a boy came up to me and said make his shadow. I started working on it and succeeded following a long time.’

Sohail said that as his passion grew and he continued this work regularly, he made many mistakes.

It took regarding a month to complete the first shadow picture. At first I struggled and got frustrated because I thought the shadow took a long time to build up.

‘My first show didn’t go as well as I wanted but as I kept trying it got better.’

He said it takes him regarding five hours to create a portrait, using scissors, a knife, paper, glue and other materials.

Sohail has done shadow portraits of many celebrities including cricketer Virat Kohli, Babar Azam and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In view of financial difficulties, they have requested help and support from the district administration so that they can further develop their skills.

According to Sohail: ‘I request the government to support me so that I can work on new innovations and ideas.’
