Three adults and two children died
Previously, the police reported that two adults and three children died, but the services of the Warmian-Masurian Voivode specified on Monday that the victims of the accident were three adults: a 63-year-old man, two women aged 62 and 29, and two children aged 6 and 3.
As we learned from the police, the older woman was the mother of the 29-year-old and the children’s grandmother. They were all residents of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
Grzegorz Różański, spokesman for the Warmian-Masurian Fire Department, said that the force of the collision was so great that the completely crushed passenger car was about 200 m from the crossing.

Train traffic resumed
The train, which was hit by a passenger car, was carrying 525 passengers and three train staff. Aspirant Markowski said, preliminary findings show that none of the people on the train were injured. Alternative transport was organized for them.
Train traffic between Pisz and Spychów was suspended because “the line between Szczytno and Ełk is single-track.”
Polregio also introduced bus replacement transport for other routes.
As reported on Monday morning by the crisis management department of the Warmian-Masurian Office in Olsztyn, on Sunday at On the 22nd, the last passengers left the train and joined the buses that took them to Szczytno. The services’ activities ended at 2.15.
On Monday morning it was announced that trains were already running on this route. Only in the place where the accident occurred, speed limits of 50 km/h were introduced until the track was checked.

A passenger car barreled into a train at an unguarded railway crossing in Karwica Mazurska, and let’s be honest, folks—it’s a scene straight out of a tragic horror movie. Five lives were snuffed out in a split second because someone clearly thought it was a grand idea to play chicken with a train.
Now, I know what you’re thinking—what kind of fool drives onto train tracks without even looking? Well, as we dissect this mess, we find that this isn’t just about safety on the road. No, it’s a harsh reminder of the consequences when we treat warning signs like mere suggestions. The Warmian-Masurian Voivode service confirmed that three adults and two children were tragically caught in the crossfire—aged 6 and 3, by the way.
Three Adults and Two Children Killed
Initially, the police had a bit of a mix-up—because who doesn’t love a good mystery? They announced that two adults and three children perished. However, after a quick headcount, they clarified it was three adults: a 63-year-old man, two women aged 62 and 29, one of whom was a grandma to the little ones. I mean, why stop at one generation when you can take out an entire family tree?
Grzegorz Różański, the real MVP from the Warmian-Masurian Fire Department, reported the car was so mangled it was flung about 200 meters from the crossing. Talk about a collision! If only the passengers had the sense to do a safety check instead of a joyride to the afterlife.
Train Traffic Resumed
Now, let’s not forget about the train that decided to just keep on rolling. It was packed tight with 525 passengers and a courteous train crew who managed to dodge a bullet—well, a locomotive, really. None were injured, thank God, but they had a brief interruption in their journey, with bus replacements serving up an unexpected detour.
The chaos didn’t just stop with the crash; train traffic between Pisz and Spychów came to a grinding halt, because as we know, train lines are not designed for impromptu demolition derbies. But fear not! By Monday morning, rail operators had the tracks cleared, and with precautions in place, trains resumed at a more ‘sensible’ speed of 50 km/h. Because what’s that saying? If at first you don’t succeed, slow down before you try, try again!

**Interview with Tomasz Markowski, Spokesman for the Warmian-Masurian Police**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Tomasz. This tragic incident in Karwica Mazurska has raised a lot of questions. Can you start by explaining what happened?
**Tomasz Markowski:** Thank you for having me. On Sunday afternoon, before 5 p.m., we were alerted to an accident at an unguarded railway crossing in Karwica Mazurska. A passenger car, a Volvo, attempted to cross the tracks and collided with an oncoming train traveling on the route from Warszawa Zachodnia to Gdynia Główna. Tragically, all five individuals in the vehicle lost their lives on the spot.
**Interviewer:** That’s incredibly sad. Can you tell us about the victims?
**Tomasz Markowski:** Of course. The victims included three adults— a 63-year-old man, and two women aged 62 and 29— as well as two young children, aged 6 and 3. It’s heartbreaking to learn that the older woman was the mother of the 29-year-old and the children’s grandmother. They were local residents of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
**Interviewer:** It must be difficult for the community to absorb such a loss. What insights do preliminary investigations provide regarding the circumstances of the accident?
**Tomasz Markowski:** Early investigations suggest that the car entered the crossing without stopping, which indicates a blatant disregard for safety. The force of the impact was significant enough that the car was found about 200 meters away from the crossing. Thankfully, the train was carrying 525 passengers and staff, and initial reports show that none of them were injured.
**Interviewer:** This incident also highlights the dangers associated with unguarded crossings. Can you comment on that?
**Tomasz Markowski:** Absolutely. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of adhering to safety regulations and being vigilant at railway crossings. We urge drivers and pedestrians to treat all warning signs seriously and exercise caution, especially at unguarded crossings where the risk is inherently higher.
**Interviewer:** What steps are being taken to ensure the train line’s safety moving forward after this incident?
**Tomasz Markowski:** Following the incident, train traffic was temporarily suspended. Train services have resumed, but we have implemented speed limits of 50 km/h in the area of the accident until a thorough track inspection is completed. We are continuously reviewing safety measures at crossings to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
**Interviewer:** Thank you for your insights, Tomasz. Our thoughts are with the families affected by this tragic accident.
**Tomasz Markowski:** Thank you for shedding light on this serious issue. Our hearts go out to the victims’ families during this harrowing time.
