MIAMI (AP) — Karol G will be honored with the Billboard Spirit of Hope Award at the 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards.
This award, created in honor of Selena, is presented to artists who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to civic, community and humanitarian causes. The Billboard Latin Music Awards will air live on Telemundo on October 5.
Carolina Giraldo Navarro, alias Karol G, created the Con Cora Foundation in 2022 with the aim of promoting the economic, social, psychological and artistic development of disadvantaged women.
“I feel grateful for this special recognition. My commitment to the Con Cora Foundation is a fundamental part of my life and I am proud to be able to help the women who need it most,” said Karol G in a statement sent on Thursday for the awards.
Fundación Con Cora is an ally of the She Is Foundation, dedicated to empowering women and girls through education in science, technology and entrepreneurship. Recently She Is achieved great success by providing training to Salomé Valencia López, a young woman selected to receive training at the NASA Space Center in Houston.
Another alliance of Karol G’s organization is with Fundación Acción Interna, which offers scholarships to women prisoners in Colombia and their female relatives. These scholarships aim to provide them with the skills and knowledge necessary to secure employment and their reintegration into society.
Recently, Karol G achieved her highest single on the Billboard Hot 100 charts with her collaboration with Shakira “TQG”, included in her fourth album “Mañana will be nice”, with which Karol G became the first woman to debut on the first place on the Billboard 200 list with an album in Spanish. The Colombian singer-songwriter is a finalist in 13 categories of the Billboard Latin Music Awards, where she will receive the Spirit of Hope award.
The awards will take place at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida, on October 5 and will feature performances by Farruko, Grupo Frontera, La Factoría, Marc Anthony, Nicki Nicole, Pepe Aguilar, Sky Rompiendo, Sofía Reyes, Ximena Sariñana and Yng Lvcas.
Also confirmed are Caliber 50, Chiquis, El Alfa, Eladio Carrión, Justin Quiles, Los Ángeles Azules, Manuel Turizo, Marshmello, Myke Towers, Peso Pluma, Tini and Yandel.
The ceremony will be broadcast live on Telemundo and will be broadcast simultaneously on the Universo cable channel, the Peacock streaming service, the Telemundo app, and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional.
