Karol G, a fashion icon with an urban and sexy style with Latin roots – 2024-07-23 07:08:59

The singer, who made her debut in Madrid this Saturday 20th and has four concerts scheduled in that Spanish city as part of her ‘Mañana Será Bonito Tour’, is a fashion icon.

Carolina Giraldo Navarro (Medellín, Colombia, 1991), known as Karol G, “has an urban style because of the type of music she makes,” Spanish stylist Alba Melendo told EFE on Friday. She has been part of the Colombian’s team since 2022 and is in charge of creating the artist’s looks for videos, commercial campaigns, and red carpets.

“Karol G is a trend-setter among young people. At her concerts, her fans replicate her outfits,” says Melendo, who considers the artist to be a reference point like Taylor Swift or Madonna.

Karol G, who is the muse of prestigious fashion brands such as Loewe, Dior, Mugler, Jacquemus and Balmain, “knows what she wants, she has her ideas very clear and she never stops contributing ideas,” adds Melendo.

Looking back, her style has evolved a lot. Gone are the days of T-shirt and sweatshirt sets, acid tones and loose, unstructured garments. Now, tight silhouettes, shiny, transparent fabrics and comfortable garments are the common denominator of her style.

Known for “her energy and her humility,” the Colombian is not afraid to experiment with different styles. “She likes to mix elements and trends: it’s as if she puts them in a blender and different looks come out.”

Her hallmark is her passion and dedication to incorporating elements of Latin culture into her way of dressing. From color to traditional craft details, her Colombian roots are always present.

For example, for her performance at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards, the singer opted for a crop top and skirt, two white pieces. The touch of color comes from the flag of her country, representing her origin.

The artist’s style mixes vintage pieces with cutting-edge ones, as well as tight-fitting garments with XXL or oversized patterns, all accompanied by Latin details and sophisticated and romantic accessories.

This is the case of the long Balmain dress in pale pink with yellow polka dots and a flower on the hip that she chose to receive the awards at the 2023 Latin Grammys in Seville.

The Colombian artist who coined the word ‘bichota’ to talk about female empowerment, loves garments that allow her to show off skin, such as tops and outfits made from light, transparent fabrics, offering a sexy and powerful image with light futuristic touches. Proof of this is the Balmain model in metallic pink that she wore on the red carpet at the 2023 Latin Grammys.

The Colombian likes Spanish design, she wore pieces by Paula Canovas del Vas and will surely wear clothes by Spanish brands during her performance in Madrid. “She always tries to go on stage with pieces created by designers from the country in which she performs.”

During concerts, she usually changes her clothes several times. “For the more melodic moments, she prefers glamorous outfits, long dresses with crystals and sparkles, while for dancing she opts for more comfortable pieces.”

If there is one thing that distinguishes Karol G, it is the tone of her hair, from aqua green to electric blue, passing through fire red and ending with the pale pink she sports now. “The color of her hair plays an important role in her image.”
