Topics such as cybercrime, illegal migration, combating people smuggling and extremism made structural changes necessary – July 1st is also the founding day of the Federal Police

Vienna (OTS) – “The new division of business in the Federal Ministry of the Interior came into force on July 1, 2022, exactly one year ago, when an important milestone was set,” said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner on July 1, 2023 in Vienna. “The implementation took a certain amount of time, but such comprehensive reform processes cannot be implemented from one minute to the next.” Karner added: “I would like to thank all employees for driving the reorganization forward.”

The Minister of the Interior emphasized that issues such as digitization and cybercrime, illegal migration, combating people smuggling and every form of extremism made it necessary to change structures. “With this reform, we have created a modern, streamlined and up-to-date organization that not only withstands these challenges, but also resolutely counters them.”

Day of the Federal Police on July 1st

The founding day of the Federal Police is also commemorated every year on July 1st. The Federal Police was established on July 1, 2005, after the police, gendarmerie and criminal police were merged into one body by a change in the law. “The path that was taken at the time turned the Ministry of the Interior into a modern and sustainable organisation,” said the Minister of the Interior. “It is still a common path that builds on the experience of the employees and bears their signature.”
