Prime Minister Narendra Modi has toured Karnataka ten times in connection with the assembly elections. Inaugurated development works worth thousands of crores of rupees including the Mysore Bangalore Highway. When he saw that nothing would be effective, he sought refuge in blatant communalism. Abolition of Muslim reservation and hijab issue were turned into electoral weapons, thinking that they would create more sectarianism. Still, the BJP could not hold its own against the advance of the Congress.
The important reason for that was that the Basava Raj Bomma government earned so much opposition from the people. The people really wanted a change from the BJP regime which flagged corruption and communalism. That is the basis of the electoral victory of the Congress in Karnataka. The people of Karnataka have responded to the BJP’s move to cover up corruption and the downfall of government with communalism.
BJP also adopted the strategy of consolidating the votes of the majority community by isolating the 11 percent minorities. When the election results came out, we could understand that this move was a failure.
This victory will help lay the foundation stone for the opposition parties’ new platform at the national level in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The results of the Karnataka assembly elections prove once again that only the Congress or the opposition platform led by the Congress can face the BJP at the national level.
