Iraqi Karim
The great poet Karim al-Iraqi died in a hospital in Abu Dhabi, due to cancer, and the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, directed the Ministry of Transport to take over the procedures for transporting his body to be buried in Iraq.
Karim al-Iraqi was born on February 18, 1955, in the Shakriya district of Karrada Maryam in the capital, Baghdad. He has dozens of books and literary works, including popular poetry, songs and plays.
He also won the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) award for “Best Humanitarian Song”, which is the poem “Remember”, which was praised by the artist Kazem El-Saher.
The Iraqi was diagnosed with cancer more than a year ago, as he underwent more than one operation and received doses of chemotherapy in an Abu Dhabi hospital.
Karim Al-Iraqi’s poems became very famous, through his cooperation with major stars, such as Kazem Al-Saher, Asala, Saber Al-Rubai, Majid Al-Muhandis, and Assi Al-Hillani.
The songs he performed with Al-Saher were a great success, most notably “Everything You Grow Up Is Sweet”, “Dalaa Al-Nisaa” and “Al-Muttabadah”.
For his part, Iraqi President Abd al-Latif Rashid mourned the late poet Karim al-Iraqi, and said in a post on Twitter: “The great poet Karim al-Iraqi, who enriched culture and art with many creative works, has left our world. . We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return”.
The Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani, also offered condolences on the death of the great poet. We belong to God and to Him we shall return, and with this loss the cultural milieu and the Iraqi artistic scene have lost a generous poet who left an important impact on the artistic memory of Iraqis.
Al-Sudani directed “the Ministry of Transport to complete the procedures related to the transfer of the body of the deceased poet to be buried in Iraq.”
For his part, Adviser to the Iraqi Prime Minister for Cultural Affairs, Aref Al-Saadi, said on “Facebook”: “I mourn for you the poet Karim Al-Iraqi, who died in an Abu Dhabi hospital.”
