Karachi’s Joseph Perera gets Indian citizenship under Pakistan defamation law – Pakistan

Joseph Perera, who hails from Pakistan, has become the first resident of the state of Goa to be granted citizenship under India’s new citizenship law.

78-year-old Joseph Francis Perera came to Pakistan from Goa at a very young age for education and was returning here. After completing his education, he got a job in Pakistan and also got citizenship.

He moved to India in 2013 but has been granted citizenship now. He was married to a woman from Goa.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant awarded Indian citizenship certificate to Joseph Francis Perera at a ceremony on Wednesday. He is the first resident of the coastal state of Goa to be granted citizenship under the new Indian citizenship law.
