Karachi Under Siege: Pakistan’s Resolve Tested by Brazen Attack

Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the Karachi attack in a meeting with the Chinese ambassador and said that ‘this attack is not on Chinese citizens but on Pakistan.’

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong on Monday in which he said that the safety of Chinese brothers who are working for the development of Pakistan is the top priority.

The statement released by the Ministry of Interior after the meeting said that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed full solidarity with the Chinese ambassador, the government and the families of the deceased Chinese citizens.

On this occasion, Mohsin Naqvi said that by ensuring a comprehensive investigation of the incident, the involved elements will be punished.

He said that the attack on Pakistan-China friendship is intolerable and is a heinous conspiracy to damage the brotherly relations.

According to the bomb disposal squad report, 70 to 80 kg of explosives were used in this blast.

The report further stated that the samples found at the crime scene were handed over to the airport police.

Earlier, the Pakistani government strongly condemned the Karachi attack and expressed its determination to bring those responsible to justice.

A statement issued by the Foreign Office on Monday said: ‘Pakistan strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack that took place near Karachi Airport last night, in which two Chinese engineers lost their lives and one was injured. We express our deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the Chinese and Pakistani victims and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.’

According to the statement: ‘This heinous act of terrorism is an attack not only on Pakistan but also on the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China. We are determined to bring those responsible for this cowardly attack, including the Majeed Brigade, to justice. Pakistan’s security and law enforcement agencies will leave no stone unturned to arrest the criminals and their facilitators.

The statement added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in close contact with the Chinese Embassy. Pakistan reiterates its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of Chinese citizens, development projects and Chinese institutions in Pakistan and will continue to work with its Chinese brothers to defeat the forces of terrorism.’

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also expressed deep sorrow over the death of Chinese citizens in the attack in Karachi.

In a statement on X on Monday, the prime minister said: ‘Deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic incident in Karachi last night that resulted in the loss of two precious Chinese lives and one injured.’

He added: ‘I strongly condemn this heinous act and offer my deepest condolences to the Chinese leadership and the people of China, especially the families of the victims.’

Shahbaz Sharif added: ‘The perpetrators of this sad incident are not Pakistanis but open enemies of Pakistan. Urgent investigations are underway to identify them and bring them to justice. Pakistan is determined to protect its Chinese friends. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure their safety and well-being.’

In Pakistan Chinese Embassy Two Chinese nationals were killed in an explosion near the Karachi International Airport on Sunday night, while several Pakistanis, including a Chinese national and a woman, were injured, confirmed on Monday.

According to the French news agency AFP, the Chinese embassy has described it as a ‘terrorist attack’.

The Chinese embassy said in a statement issued on Monday morning that the convoy of the Port Qasim Electric Power Company was attacked near the airport.

The statement said that the Chinese Embassy and Consulate General in Pakistan strongly condemn this ‘terrorist attack’ and express their heartfelt condolences to the innocent victims of both countries and their families.

The embassy said that a Chinese and several Pakistani citizens were also injured in the attack. The embassy urged Pakistani authorities to “thoroughly investigate the attack and severely punish the killers.”

The embassy called on Pakistani authorities to ‘take practical measures to fully ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, institutions and projects.’

According to the correspondent of Independent Urdu, the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan said that the flights from Karachi are continuing as usual after the attack and the agencies are investigating the accident site and the explosion.

In a statement emailed to journalists, the banned terrorist group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed that the attack was a suicide attack, in which it also released a picture of Shah Fahad alias Aftab of the Majeed Brigade.

The explosion took place near the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi on Sunday night, which was initially described as an oil tanker explosion by the local police.

The injured were taken to Jinnah Hospital, where according to doctors, the condition of one person was critical.

According to the rescue officials, the sound of the explosion was also heard near Karimabad, Defense and Jamshed Road and clouds of smoke were also seen in the area.

According to rescue officials, two fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and brought the fire under control.

According to eyewitnesses and videos circulating on social media, several vehicles parked near the blast caught fire.

According to rescue officials, more than four vehicles were damaged, including a police mobile and a rickshaw.

Following the incident, both the tracks were completely closed for traffic.

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Linjar has given instructions to SSP Malir to inform about the facts immediately.

SSP Malir assured to bring the facts to the public soon and said that local police and officers are present at the spot.

The Governor and Chief Minister of Sindh have called for a report on the incident.
