Karachi Test against Bangladesh to be played without spectators: PCB

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that Pakistan and Bangladesh The second cricket test match in Karachi starting from August 30 between National Bank Stadium It will be played without fans due to ongoing construction work.

PCB has started renovating the stadium in preparation for the Champions Trophy starting from February 19 next year.

A statement issued by the PCB on Wednesday said that it has suspended the sale of tickets for the Karachi Test with immediate effect and that fans who have already purchased tickets will be given full refunds.

The statement added: ‘The health and safety of fans is our top priority. After considering all available options, we have decided that the safest course is to hold the second Test in an empty stadium.’

The Pakistan Cricket Board said it wants to expand the stadium to accommodate more spectators for the Champions Trophy, which will be the first multinational ICC event to be held in Pakistan since the 1996 World Cup.

Arrival of visiting team

The Bangladesh team arrived in Lahore on Tuesday to play the Test series against Pakistan.

The visiting team rested on Tuesday and took part in the first training session today (Wednesday) at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

After three days of training, the visiting team will leave for Rawalpindi on August 17.

Pakistani squad

Earlier, PCB had announced the 17-member squad for the Test series against Bangladesh on August 7, in which fast bowler Naseem Shah made a comeback after 13 months.

The first match of the two-match series will be played in Rawalpindi from August 21, followed by the second Test in Karachi from August 30.

Pakistan team will be led by Shan Masood while left-handed middle-order batsman Saud Shakeel is the vice-captain.

Saud has been made vice-captain in place of Shaheen Shah Afridi, who was holding the role during the Australia tour.

According to PCB, this decision has been taken in view of handling the workload of Shaheen Afridi in a very busy season.

There are three new players in the squad. Kamran Ghulam, Muhammad Ali, and Muhammad Harira have earned a place in the squad for their impressive domestic performances.

Imam-ul-Haq, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali (injured), Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Wasim Jr. (injured), Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan, who were part of the Pakistan squad against Australia, failed to retain their place in the team.
