Karachi Airport: A tracking dog on the runway was killed by a bird shooter

The Civil Aviation Authority, the organization responsible for the management of airports in Pakistan, said on Saturday that a dog trained by the anti-narcotics force was shot and killed while approaching the runway of Karachi Airport.

According to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson Saifullah Khan, the incident took place at 3:30 am on Saturday.

Talking to Independent Urdu, Saifullah Khan said that this dog of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) was trained to detect drugs in aircraft and passengers’ luggage. Last night the dog went to the airport as the cage was open.

‘The dog was later spotted at holding bay number 25 at the airport where aircraft are temporarily parked or stopped before take-off or after landing.

At that time, an Etihad Airways flight was landing. When the pilot saw the dog, he informed the airport traffic control. Control informed airside.

After which the bird shooter killed the dog by shooting it thinking it was a normal dog. Further investigations are being conducted on this incident.’

According to the Narcotics Force (ANF) spokesperson: ‘It was a trained dog that was brought in two, three days ago, the dog went to the airport last night.’

According to an ANF spokesperson: ‘There are dogs trained to detect drugs at airports and roadsides. Who are trained for several months. Sometimes they are taken to the airport and sometimes to the noses.’

What breed are these dogs? When asked, the spokesman said, ‘The breed of these tracking dogs depends on the type of work they will be required to do.’
