Kapil Dev overtook R.S. Ashwin; Only Anil Kumble is ahead!

In the Test match against Sri Lanka in Mohali, spinner Ravi Chandran Ashwin broke another record by taking six wickets in two innings. He became the second highest wicket-taker for India in Tests, surpassing the legendary Kapil Dev. Anil Kumble is now ahead of Ashwin with 619 wickets.

Kapil Dev has taken 434 wickets in Tests. Now r. Ashwin has two wickets more than Kapil. Ashwin, who took two wickets in the first innings, broke Kapil’s record of 10 wickets in the second innings yesterday. He then took the 435th Test wicket, taking the wicket of Charitha Asalanka. It was Ashwin who ended Sri Lanka’s game by dismissing Lahiru Kumara.

Ashwin is currently the highest wicket-taker behind James Anderson (640) and Stuart Broad (537). Ashwin is also the fourth Indian bowler to take more than 400 wickets in Tests.

Muttiah Muralitharan is the highest wicket-taker in Tests. He has taken 800 wickets in 133 matches. Muthiah is followed by the recently deceased Australian cricket legend Shane Warne (708). James Anderson (640), Anil Kumble (619), Glenn McGrath (563), Stuart Broad (537), Courtney Walsh (519), Dale Steyn (439), R.C. Ashwin (436) is in the next position.
