Kanye West is sued by a pastor who accuses him of having used one of his sermons without his authorization.
Texas pastor David Paul Moten has filed a lawsuit once morest him, UMG Recordings, Def Jam Recordings and GOOD Music, TMZ reports. The clergyman is referring to a sermon featured on the track Donda Come to Life, which he says is “70 seconds in a 5 minute 10 second track…which is over 20% of the song “.
In court documents, he added that the use of the sermon was an example of the music industry “willfully and blatantly sampling the sound recordings of others without consent or permission.”
The Donda album was released in August 2021 and sold 309,000 copies in its first week of release and over 60 million US streams on Apple Music in the first 24 hours of release. Kanye West’s disc broke the 2021 record for the platform.
