Ryan Yarbrough, pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, lived dramatic moments this Sunday, following being hit in the face by a ball in the game once morest the Oakland Athletics. The left-handed man had to leave the match with clear signs of pain.

Yarbrough was allowed to leave the pitch with the club’s training staff while holding a towel to his face following a short delay. The public gave him an ovation because he showed gallantry by leaving by his own means.

The 106 mph line came off the bat of Ryan Noda, who missed on the play following Yarbrough’s rebound was fielded by catcher Salvador Perez.

“It was terrifying,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said, according to MLB.com’s Anne Rogers. “The dugout went silent. Your heart falls there. You have a hole in your stomach. I can’t think of anything worse to see on the field. Fortunately, when we came out, he was talking and aware of what was happening.”

Yarbrough, 31, was in the midst of a great performance, allowing one run and three hits in five innings. Venezuelan right-hander Carlos Hernández replaced him on the mound following two outs in the sixth inning.
