Kansas City Man Brutally Detained by Police for Shoplifting $5 Frozen Pizza: Shocking Incident Reflects George Floyd Case

A 24-year-old man from Kansas City, US, was thrown to the ground and held to the ground with one knee on his neck by three police officers after he continued on his way without showing a receipt for a US$5 frozen pizza that he had just bought at Walmart.

“There must be at least one suspension for this, because it is serious. George Floyd died like that,” hammered Dayton Borisouth, 24, in an interview with local media KCTV5 on Tuesday.

On June 1, the blue-haired young man went to Walmart after a day of work in the field of home renovations to help his uncle, whose car would not start.

That’s when he would have gone to buy a frozen pizza for supper. But when he came out, pizza in hand, a policeman stopped him to ask if he had his receipt.

Not believing himself legally obliged to show the piece of paper, Dayton Borisouth would have answered “yes” before continuing on his way. It was then that the police officer would have followed him to corner him in a wall and send him to the ground, he told the American media.

“There is the fucking receipt, bro, read it stupid!, can we hear the young man shouting at the policeman trying somehow to give him the receipt, while he struggles on the ground with the guy on him. Can you ask him to read the receipt?”

On the images, captured by the uncle of the young adult, we can hear him repeating to the policeman to read the receipt, before the arrival of reinforcements pinning him to the ground at three with one knee on his neck.

It is only when the police straighten the 24-year-old man that they discover a crumpled receipt on the ground.

If he believes he was targeted because of his physical appearance, he who was not wearing a sweater after his day’s work, Dayton Borisouth could appear for refusing to comply with orders, KCTV5 reported.

“Either way, this is going to stay with me for the rest of my life. I will probably always be afraid of the cops now and afraid for my daughter and my son and what they will have to go through as they get older,” the man reportedly said.

For its part, the police force revealed that two of the police officers would have been subject to disciplinary sanctions after an internal investigation and will have to undergo additional training.

“We believe the officer should have disengaged at that time due to the circumstances. […] The investigation also concluded that one of the officers employed techniques that are neither approved nor trained by the department,” the Kansas City Police Department (KCKPD) reportedly said in a statement.
