“Kansas City Chiefs unveil new offensive line strategy for 2022 season”

The Kansas City Chiefs offensive line is a centerpiece of Head Coach Andy Reid’s offense.

As recently as March, Jawaan Taylor was signed to a four-year, $80 million contract to take the left tackle position. Two months later, that plan lapsed once more, as Reid has now revealed.

Instead, the first Donovan Smith, who signed on last week, should play as a left tackle, while Taylor dodges to the right. “He was a high-level left tackle and if you look at last year he was injured,” Reid said of Smith. “The year before he was one of the best left tackles in the league.”

Kansas City Chiefs: With many options in the training sessions

As for Taylor, Reid confirmed, “Yeah, we’re going to pull him to the right.” According to the head coach, these plans only apply to the first training sessions in the offseason. You want to keep the option open to swap both players once more.

Taylor played 22 snaps as a left tackle in four years, according to PFF, most of them in 2022. Smith, on the other hand, started 124 games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a left tackle and hasn’t played a single snap on the right during that time .

Failed negotiations with Orlando Brown Jr., who now plays for the Cincinnati Bengals, preceded the considerations of making Taylor the new left tackle at all. The plans with Taylor now seem to have been thrown overboard before the first training sessions.
