Kanojo mo Kanojo sorprende con un amargo desarrollo — Kudasai

The article “Kanojo mo Kanojo surprises with a bitter development” contains spoilers, discretion is advised.

A few months ago we reported that the author of the popular romantic comedy manga Kanojo mo Kanojo (Girlfriend, Girlfriend), Hiroyuki, I had already decided the end of the work. It turns out that the most recent chapter became a trend immediately following its publication, since some fear that it has meant the total rejection (and, consequently, the exit) of one of the main girls.

In the history of romantic comedies, there are two types of endings: one where the protagonist chooses to keep only one of the girls, and another where he decides to keep all of them. obviously also there is the option where the protagonist does not choose anyone and the whole story remains open endeda detestable type of ending that is usually written by authors who fear they will be criticized if they choose one of the first two types of endings.

Of course, romantic comedies often include a harem, that is, a group of girls interested in the leading man who compete with each other to get him. However, when an author has decided that the protagonist will stay with only one of the girls, the fans and especially the team (groups of fans who support one of the girls in particular) must suffer rejection from the girl they rooted for as the end draws near.

It seems that this time Kanojo mo Kanojo it was the turn of Rika “Mirika” Hoshizakiwho has apparently been definitively rejected by Naoya Mukai, the protagonist. In the most recent chapter of the manga we might see that both finally spoke face to face, and Naoya dealt the final blow:

  • «Mirika-san, I’m sorry for everything. The first time you told me you liked me, I didn’t feel anything. I just wanted you to stop bothering me, but I’ve learned a lot regarding you. You’re pretty direct regarding what you want, you’re really fun to be around, and you’re pretty cute too. You keep exceeding my expectations time and time once more. (…) So at least I have to tell you now. Mirika-san, I love you. But I’m sorry…»

In desperation, Mirika stripped down to her underwear, and offered to have sex with him even before he accepted her as his only girlfriend:

  • «There is still… One thing I haven’t shown you… I can satisfy all the desires you have. You can do whatever you want with my body… I’ll even let you try once before you give me your answer! So please!».

This panel even inspired a recreation in the style of the animation, made by Twitter user “@asobi_night“:

Of course, this whole scene inspired a variety of comments from fans, notably:

  • «This chapter broke my heart».
  • «Damn imbecile, if you didn’t love her you would have rejected her from the first moment! Not when she really fell for you!».
  • «I think the author just made a move that might get him into trouble in the future. If she just gives up on the lead and looks for someone else, it’s going to be an empty and unsatisfying ending! On the other hand, if she becomes the protagonist’s only girlfriend, then it would be a worse ending! The only logical solution was for her to enter Naoya’s harem, but the author didn’t come up with it!».
  • «The author forgot that he is writing a story recognized by the harem, now it turns out that Naoya only wants one?».
  • «I think Naoya has no problem letting her into the harem, it’s Rika who doesn’t want that. She wants to be the only person for Naoya, but that’s not possible.».
  • «It is evident that the author will put her in the harem at some point in the future, even in the next chapter.».
  • «The end of the manga is just around the corner. If Mirika ends up with someone who really knows how to appreciate the woman that she is, that would be great. Naoya doesn’t deserve her, in fact, he doesn’t deserve any of the girls that make up his harem».
  • «If Saki, Nagisa, and Shino inform Naoya that they want to end the relationship because he hurt one of her best friends, it would be the perfect ending. I’m speaking enserio».
  • «Haha, the author thinks she can trick me, but it’s obvious that she will join the harem followingwards. Maybe not in the next chapter, but she will eventually.».
  • «Guys, don’t lose sight of the theme of this manga. While the fools have a favorite, the rest of us know that they will all win in the end.».
  • «Yes, we know that Rika will join the harem followingwards. But was there a need to humiliate her by making her offer up her body?».
  • «Technically, the deal was to make Naoya fall in love with her, so she already won.».
